Why TikTok Banned in Nepal

The Nepal Government has banned Chinese TikTok. According to Rekha Sharma, the government spokesperson and Minister of Communications and Information Technology, we took this action due to TikTok’s negative impact on social harmony.

The government trying to justify that TikTok was destroying social harmony and goodwill, by “misusing” the popular video app and there was a rising demand to control it. As per several reports, there were almost 1,600 cases concerning TikTok-related cybercrime of have been filed during the last four years in Nepal.

TikTok is a popular Social media platform in Nepal. The Nepali people not only use it for entertainment but also for the advertisement of their business. TikTok is also a making money online platform.  Some guys made lots of money. Some people became famous due to TikTok, such as TikTok Star.

India, a neighboring country of Nepal has already banned TikTok along with above 50 other apps by Chinese developers in June 2020, stating that they could treat their national security and integrity. Pakistan has banned this app due to “immoral and indecent” content in the app.

Several other countries including the United States, European Union, and the United Kingdom have also banned TikTok in the name of national security concerns in their territory.
